Went to see The Hours this afternoon. Very good. Not an upbeat movie with a happy ending (just how we like 'em). It’s an introspective, sad and depressing look at three women’s lives linked in a profound way by a novel, Mrs. Dalloway.
How many women are unhappy with who they are and with the lives they are living? Millions. How many women secretly feel they are bad mothers, wives or friends, and hate passionately the role or path they’ve chosen or have been given in life? Millions. How many women don’t get help when they feel ashamed of their problems and give up on living as a result of their feelings or thoughts? Millions. Nowhere in this story is there a positive, helpful, or hopeful solution to the dilemmas these characters face. Just an introspective look at three women who needed answers and tragically, didn’t get them.
I kept staring at Kidmans nose every time she was on screen and I was overly intrigued and aware of the special make-up they used to make it look Woolf-esque. She delivers an incredible performance of a woman deeply disturbed and tormented by her own demons and depression (made worse apparently by living in Richmond, South-West London, hahahahaha!) and unable to cope with her life. In fact, there wasn't a stinky piece of acting in the whole film.
It's a beautifully filmed movie with an emotionally disturbing story, an incredible cast, a great musical score, and Oscars written all over it.

I'd totally forgotten just how good Killing Joke by Killing Joke was. Playing it now. Wow.
